Touching Earth, 2010 epoxy bronze, porcelain enamel, concrete and steel 36″ x 50″ x 50″ San Francisco Richmond District Library, Emeryville, Ca
I designed these sculptures to integrate into the very small symmetrical renovated library landscape and building. Each dome is a relief sculpture map. The South one is of the entire Bay Area and portrays a time in history from 15,000 years ago to 100 years ago. The North sculpture is a close-up view of San Francisco and the Richmond District from today. My interpretation exaggerates certain features like the mountains and hills and there are little reliefs and images depicting how virtually everyone arrived or their relatives arrived to be looking here and now at these sculptures. I say no one is native to San Francisco and even Native Americans relatives had to walk here, or maybe boat here a long time ago.
